SEN Transition

How we support children/young people with SEN starting at our school

The Early Years team make home and feeder nursery visits to meet the children who will be starting in our school. They spend time working with the children and observing them in a familiar environment. They also talk to the children’s parents and key works. An induction event for parents and children also takes place to share information and for parents / carers to ask any questions they may have.

Transition days are also arranged so that new children can become familiar with a new environment and adults in short sessions before starting our school. For children with SEND we would encourage further visits to assist with the familiarisation of new surroundings.

How we support children/young people with SEN moving between classes in our school

We are a smaller than average school and most children become familiar with all the staff throughout a school year as staff do break duties and take assemblies. To support child moving between classes we also have a transition afternoon where the children can become more familiar with their new classroom and class teacher. For children with SEND, extra transition sessions can be arranged so that they feel happy and secure in their new environment.

How we support children/young people with SEN leaving our school

When pupils leave our school, either to a new school or to secondary school, we arrange visits so that the child can become familiar with their new learning environment. We also ensure that we have given the new school all the SEN information about the child and we talk with a member of staff from the new school to make the transition as smooth as possible.

If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
